Hi, I am very new to Nortel BCM50, my environment is BCM50+2 expends box, I got some questions lately:
1. for BCM50+2 expend box, how many IP phones it can support? doc guide say each can support 32, then total 32*3=96, am I right? if so, how come that system has 80 ip phones but I can not find an Inactive DNs?
2. one phone(ext 7487) button broken, I want to change with a new phone, when phone is rebooting, I put DN 7487 to it, but got error message DN is in used? what are main steps to replay a broken phone?
3. In SRG configure tab, we got DN and Hardware ID (phone Mac address), it seems like DN is still associated with old phone Mac after I have changed some setting (phone DN, target line, etc.)

please bear me if I ask foolish questions.

It sounds as if the BCM 50 is an SRG version connected to another Nortel System?. You will need to deregister the IP phone before you can replace it if you want to use the same DN of e.g. 7487.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

exactly, it is BCM50 SRG. before I replace it, I have unplug old phone, then it should be deregistered to system? or how can I menuly deregister it ? thanks.

Resources/Telephony resurces/IP sets/deregister at bottom of page.
32 ip sets is the total on a bcm50 and 44 digital sets = 66 total sets. depending on the expansion cards for digital but only 32 ip..

If the BCM 50 is an SRG, it will NOT operate as a BCM 50 in the "normal" way. To make a BCM 50 an SRG, a keycode is put in, and converts the BCM 50 to an SRG, and hard codes that into the system. It is an SRG going forward period. The only way to make the SRG a true BM 50 again, is to go through a process through Avaya Tech Support, which of course, will cost you to do it. I wasn't a fan of converting BCM systems to SRG because you basically make it an SRG permanently. there are other ways to achieve the purpose without "decimating" the SRG.

thanks Snowman50, when I click Ip Sets, a message shows up "Retrieving data from device...please wait", but I wait and wait until Element Manager time out, there are no any data can be retrieved. did I miss something?
thanks.

You can also deregister a phone if you go to
Sets
Active sets
Select your extn
Select Capabilities
When the extn opens it shout show a tab for ip settings.
Select deregister
