HI
I've only worked on Gentran on NT platform. We used to call the templates as INVOic,purchase order etc.My doubt is..is it any different from 810,850.Are then on the same platform. Can you also tell me where i can learn the jargons for transaction set..like Invoic is otherwise called 810 etc.
Thanks in advance

Thanks. Its just that when I was searching for jobs every one was refering to Invoic as 810 etc.I was confused whether Invoic is also called 810 in Edifact. After I looked at the site u had mentioned I came to know that they refer to transaction sets differently in different standards.
I have another question. Is there a standard procedure to map.I have seen in many cases people map groups approximately and do not follow any standard rules.
Thanks

Veens,

If I understand your question correctly, most of the maps that I create are based on a trading partner's documentation. For example, if Walmart wants an 810, they will dictate to me via documentation the exact specifications and options that they want me to use. In the situation where your company is requiring suppliers to do EDI, then you will need to decide what data that your back-office system requires, then document an EDI standard transaction (or message) that meets that criteria.

Within each transaction set (810 for example), you will find that every trading partner will want to use their own version of the standard. They may choose to use certain segments, while others do not. "Standards" are merely guidelines with hundreds of possible variations.

If you need to create documentation, I strongly suggest that you do a search on the internet for the particular document (such as "X12 810 4010") to see what other companies are doing. "4010" is an X12 version.

Thanks K.Hood.My question was..if u have a field in ur business doc say Invoice date..u will map it to dtm segment. So my question was do we have a standard set which say if its date and time it should be mapped to this particular segment..that is my doubt
