Hi,

In my system, I have a route from 1.2.3.4 to 10.10.10.10 as my gateway. It is working fine all the time.

Until recently, I see an new entry in my routing table read as

Dest. Gateway Flags
1.2.3.4 10.10.10.10 UG
1.2.3.4 10.10.10.100 UGHD

(where 10.10.10.100 is the IP of my server)

This new entry is not permanently appear in the routing table. The problem is when ever this entry with "UGHD" appear, the IP 1.2.3.4 is no longer pingable and in fact, the ICMP Net is Unreachable untill the "UGHD" disappear.

My question is

1 Why and how is this thing happen?
2 Is there a way to prevent "UGHD" from turning on?
3 If not, is there a way to kill it?
4 Can we create a script to remove UGHD everytime it appear?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!

Try stopping your routing information protocol daemon (routed). Also type touch /etc/notrouter to prevent it loading next time you boot. Annihilannic.

No, it will stop routes that are broadcast by other routers on your network being added to your routing table. Any static routes that you have defined manually will be unaffected. Annihilannic.
