Hi
I am getting following error. If any one know about this. Please give me a reply.

"bsd-gw[15144]: Error reading from connection: Bad file number"

Thanks in advance
Karan

bsd-gw is the name which the in.lpd daemon uses when logging info. The messages means something connected to the print port on this system (tcp port 515) and then disconnected.

Is this system a print server, if not then you can comment
out the "printer" line in the inetd.conf file and then HUP 1 (restart) the inetd.conf process.

If you use the google search engine and search for bsd-gw errors you will see a lot of entries and possible solutions.

Hi tuka

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks
Karan

There is also a vulnerability that has been related to in.lpd and reported in CERT CA-2001-15. Sun has issued the following patches:

OS Version Patch ID
__________ _________
SunOS 5.8 109320-04
SunOS 5.8_x86 109321-04
SunOS 5.7 107115-09
SunOS 5.7_x86 107116-09
SunOS 5.6 106235-09
SunOS 5.6_x86 106236-09

Hope this helps.
