Hi,
I am experiencing a problem on saving the index. I found that all the saveset: C:\ D:\ System State and REPAIRDISK are all okay, however when legato finally save the index it finally come out the following error in the insuccessful saveset:

Nov 20 23:04:20 nwserver: * clientA:index 3 retries attempted
Nov 20 23:04:20 nwserver: * clientA:index uasm: getcwd failed
Nov 20 23:04:20 nwserver: * clientA:index save: external ASM `uasm' exited with code 1
Nov 20 23:04:20 nwserver: * clientA:index save: D:\Program Files\nsr\index\clientA\db6 was not successfully saved
Nov 20 23:04:20 nwserver: * clientA:index save: RPC error: RPC cannot encode arguments
Nov 20 23:04:20 nwserver: * clientA:index save: save of index:aigcccimg2 to aigcccimg1 failed

I have 4 clients including the backup server itself being backup and I have seperate backup windows for each client. That means I seperate all the client in different savegorup.
Each savegroup finally get this error. From Legato, they said that is related to the permission of the index directory, but I have already grant everyone full control from the nsr directory to all the sub-directories under it. The strange thing is the other saveset is all ok but not the index one. have anyone experienced this before? I am using 6.1.2 for NT.
Thanks a lot!
Tony

What about the permissions to the disk itself?

For some reason the account that is used to start up the NetWorker Backup and Recovery Services on the backup server is unable to access the indexes. By default, this is started by a local System account.

Try to determine if any special permissions or ACL's have been set on the file system? Or whether the local System account's rights and privs have been modified?

Could be:

1. Permissions issue?

- Check the rights and privs of the local System account

- Try changing the NetWorker Backup and Recovery Services to start with the local or domain administrator account and password, then restart the services. To specify the domain account I think the format you use is: domain\account

2. Indexes are corrupted? Run nsrck -L6 <client name>

I am using a domain admin id to start the service instead of using the system account because when I use system account, I notice that there are some problems backing up even the C: D: etc. When I use domain admin id, everything is ok except the index.
i have run the nsrck -L6 before, but nothing special from the output.
Thanks
Tony

From what you described, it certainly sounds like you have been doing some modifications to the file permissions, ACL's, and/or user rights. Please review these changes.

Hi,

I received a similar error ...

* neptune:/oradata/dw/backup/vol3 5 retries attempted
* neptune:/oradata/dw/backup/vol3 save: getcwd failed

When I went to check the permissions on the directory, I got

.: IO/error

This is why only this filesystem couldn't get backed up. The rest of the filesystems on the server were backed up fine.
