Hi Gurus!!!

My Sun Server just rebooted... It did not create any core dump in /var/crash.

I saw in the /var/adm/messages

May 31 04:59:55 uxtrms01 syslogd: going down on signal 15
May 31 05:00:42 uxtrms01 genunix: [ID 672855 kern.notice] syncing file systems...
May 31 05:00:42 uxtrms01 genunix: [ID 904073 kern.notice] done
May 31 10:47:50 uxtrms01 genunix: [ID 540533 kern.notice] SunOS Release 5.8 Version Generic_108528-15 64-bit

What does signal 15 means?

Thanks gurus!

Signal 15 is a normal SIGTERM signal - i.e. kill - this does not tell you anything about why your machine crashed - looks like a normal shutdown since you always get this in messages on a reboot as init runs /etc/rc0.d/Kxxsyslogd. Check you cron files for an init statement - if you have a UPS this may shutdown the server if it detects a loss of power. Suspicious that its at 05:00 exactly.

Ok... so if this is normal then somebody must have shutdown the server... how can I know who shutdown the server and what time?

Thanks

Do a 'last' to see who was logged in at the time. Might give some clues...
