Hi everyone -

I'm trying to install Client 6.0 on a workstation running Windows 2000 Professional (SP2, SRP1). When I install the client using the administrator account, I'm able to run Notes without incident. When I try to run Notes from the end-user's account (User privileges), I get the following error message:

"You cannot use the Administration program while the Domino Server is running. Either shut down the Domino Server (but keep the file server running) or choose the ican labeled 'Lotus Notes' instead."

When I elevate that user to an administrator, Notes runs fine. It seems that there's something to do with file permissions or a registry setting, but I don't really know where to begin.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Regards,

Don Matteson

maybe you could install the lotus notes client program by logging in as the user, not by the administrator account.

one more thing, when you launch the notes program make sure that the target of the icon is correct, check on its Properties. do not run the domino server administration program.

Hi pinkjambu -

Thanks for the response.

I've tried elevating the user to administrator permissions, installing, and things run fine. After I drop them back to user permissions, I get the same error.

I've double-checked the shortcut, as well as going into the program directory and opening the executable directly.

All of this seems to me to point to registry/file permissions issues, but I just don't know which ones to tweak.

Okay folks -

Here's the scoop. After making a few phone calls to the tech people higher up in my organization, this was the solution:

Assign all users full rights to the entire \Program Files\Lotus folder. A bit more of a shotgun approach than I was looking for, but the user's up and running. I'll experiment over the next few weeks (time permitting) to see if I can't establish a shorter list of specific files that need to have full permissions. I don't like users having more permissions than they need....

Thanks for your help!

Don
