X11.adt.lib 4.3.3.0
bos.adt.include 4.3.3.3

Thanks.

You take AIX 4.3.3 installation media

run smitty, select install/ devices&printers / chose cdrom and named filesets

-dont reboot-

install ML patch to your system

-reboot now-

Hi Gheist,

These are the steps I followed in SMITTY.
--------------------------------------------

Software Installation and Maintenance

Install and Update Software

Install and Update Software by Package Name (includes devices and printers)

Input device / directory name (CDROM)

when I pressed enter key I got the following error message.

Press Enter or Cancel to return to the
application.

1800-106 An error occurred:

Input device or directory does not exist

What am I missing here /

What is an ML patch.

Thank you for your time.

The URL for getting AIX filesets, searching by APAR, PTF or filename is:

Additionally, if the filesets you want to install are base level, you need to install them from the install CD or if you have an SP system you can get the filesets from your lppsource.

`installp` is the command to install filesets and perform other functions, however, use "smitty install" to install them so you don't have to search the manpages for the correct syntax.

Did you place the AIX CDROM in the CDROM drive? It isn't listed in your steps, so that is why I ask.

Although I don't have to mount the cdrom drive before I use smit, maybe you have to. Make sure of the correct device name for your cdrom and enter that in the "location" prompt.

You can determine what device your cdrom is connected to (connected is a bad word, but I'm at a loss for the correct term right now.) by issuing the following command:
Code:
> lsdev -C -c cdrom

The first word on the output is the device that your cdrom is on. For me I got "cd0" so the full path to my cdrom is "/dev/cd0".

Hope this helps. Einstein47

Thanks Einstein47 for the advice.

I used cdrom instead /dev/cd0.

It worked.

Shall we say "The cdrom is configued as /dev/cd0 or anything else" as long as you managed to pass the message to me.

Once again, thank you very much !!!
