Hi all,

When looking thru log files from machines on the same subnet I find following entry on a few machines, other machines don't have this in the log file.


Jun 10 14:04:47 armada /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 898142 daemon.error] error while receiving a pdu from 172.31.240.124.53389: The message has a wrong version (1)
Jun 10 14:04:48 armada last message repeated 1 time
Jun 10 14:04:49 armada /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 733502 daemon.error] agent_process(): unauthorized manager (172.31.240.124)
Jun 10 14:04:49 armada /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 247935 daemon.error] local pdu process error
Jun 10 14:04:49 armada /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 227753 daemon.error] session_send_loopback_request() failed
Jun 10 14:04:50 armada /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 898142 daemon.error] error while receiving a pdu from 172.31.240.124.53389: The message has a wrong version (1)

This 172.31.240.124 is running system V 4.0

I have no idea where this machine is (we got a big lan) or what it does.
Can anyone help me out what this actually means ?

Do you have an HPOpenview system on your network trying to access SNMP mibs on your server?

These machines have SNMP enabled on them and this is SNMP error.. If you do not have any Systems and network monitoring / management tool in your network, then you can disable SNMPdx on ur machine and u will get rid of this error.
