HH:MM question

I have a cell (A1) with total hours which is in a custom hh:mm format. The value in here is 08:00

I have another cell (A2) with total days which is in number format. The value in here is 5.

In cell A3 I have a formula - A1*A2. This cell is formatted as hh:mm. I would assume the formula would give me 40:00. But I am getting 16:00.

Any idea why?
