Hey everyone Just making the transition from the pressroom to desktop publication for print, just completed tech school for desktop publishing I was taught Quark 5 there ... Yeah yeah I know I know Just got a copy of Indesign and was blown away from the power it has for Production design. I can use all advice and tips, even a template or two Lol.... Are there any pressmen in this forum I have a question I came across while reading Real World InDesign by David Blatner and Olav Martin. What is a Slug? I understand bleeds but slug draws a blank.

Thanx

Perhaps in the role of desktop publishing, you may choose to use more punctuation. [bigsmile]

A slug is the area above the artwork that you can place job information. This area can be printed or suppressed with InDesign.

There are plenty of presspeople here. Welcome.

About slug,

It can be used in several ways, as Jimboblak suggested, but it can be everywhere, at the bottom, left, right and top. I for example use it when I have a trifold to indicate where the folding has to come and how the folding has to be done. Just one option.

It is all about communication with your printers to get a godd result.
