The thing that caught my attention:

To decode the word's meaning, Kiesling listened to conversations with fraternity members he taped in 1993. He also had undergraduate students in sociolinguistics classes in 2001 and 2002 write down the first 20 times they heard "dude" and who said it during a three-day period.

When you study students in a college fraternity, are you really getting an honest view? Is this an ivory towers of academia thing?

Dude, his methods sound questionable. I mean, dude, really.

Sorry, I haven't opened link...but I was told that Dude is a Lazy Cowboy. Co-worker told me that what it is "dude"... Just sharing
