If you are listening....

Users and Installers (based on comments from many I know in the industry) want some additional features on BCM:

-Enhanced CLID on IP phones....name and number displaying at the same time unlike they do currently.

-Internal Call Hold Music, especially useful in large offices with BCM 450's, but would be a nice perk on a nifty little BCM50.

-ADD THE CS1000 or Nortel SIP Client ring tones (tones 5-8) to the BCM for added flexibility for the users to the IP phones.

-ADD a CALL WAITING BUZZ similar to the CS1000 or Nortel SIP Client IP phones, why have the phone continue to ring while you are another call, when you could have the simple call waiting tone instead??

These are rather simple features, please look into them....

Thank you,

Joe, speaking on behalf of BCM users. Does anyone else agree with me or back me up?

Won't happen since BCM is disappearing. U'll have to see if ip office has what Ur looking for.

Agreed! Once IPO Release 7.0 is out, you can expect the announcement of the retirement of the BCM.

So in other words, our current BCM's are useless and will not interface with IP Office 7.0? Will we have to throw away all of our investment in BCM and keycodes, and put in a whole new IP office switch and use Avaya phones? Are you suggesting the 1100 and 1200 series IP phones are going to be discontinued and the 9600 Avaya phones will be the only ones going forward.

what a dissapointment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, IPO R7 will support Nortel IP sets. This will make it more cost effective for people to upgrade their older systems. Support for the existing base will likely continue for some to come but Avaya's investment going forward will be in the IP Office, not the BCM.

Thr good news is, both systems support SIP trunks so they can interoperate that way.

There's always a price to pay for progress!

Rumor has it that IP Office rls 7 will work with the BCM phones. So maybe the plan is when you upgrade from BCM rls 6 to the rls 7 platform it will be a hardware swap just like when you went from the 400 4.0 to the 450 platform. Has anyone else heard this, it would make a lot of since because a lot of the investment is in the handsets?

Thank you for clearing that up Telcodog and Hawks....you are a both very good experts on this BCM thread.

So what's your feel on some of the operating functions such as the Feature button and paging codes like Feature 630, or Feature 74 for call park or the extensive list of Nortel feature codes? Do you believe some of these will remain and operate the same....along with the addition of Avaya features?

Your's and Hawks comments are quite reassuring....give it to me to pick the worst case scenario :)

That's correct. The IPO releaese 6.1 will support Nortel IP sets. The R7 version will support the BCM/Norstar TDM sets. Once that's done, there is no reason to continue with both systems, speaking from a business perspective. Norstar and BCM upgrade paths will be to IPO while keeping the customer's investment in the Nortel sets.

The other good news (or rumor) is that R7 will have a GUI that is very similar to the BCM, so it won't be a total loss.

As for features, I would expect that whatever the IPO can do now, it will continue to do in R7 and beyond.

A lot of this is speculation on my part however I do know a lot of folks over there at Avaya, mostly in the R$D group so take the info for what it's worth.

Well that makes great sense Telcodog.

I have a friend at Avaya in the R&D group who helps me out quite a bit and he seems pretty confident that the BCM features will survive in the IPO format.

All I know is that I love the way 6.0 BCM works currently.

Thank you for your feedback.
