I am using AccPac 6.5 DOS. It is on a regular windows fileserver on ethernet network. Two people using it on computers with XP. We have both been using AccPac for thirteen years.

Recently, the program hangs up or pauses or hesitates (not sure what to call it). For example, I will key in a payable through the amount, look up and realize the program is stopped at the account field. While I watch, the program will start again and continue with all the keystrokes I just did. It happens intermittently. It could happen once in a batch or several times. It can happen when we are both using AccPac or when one of us is using another program. It can happen in any of the modules. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. Data integrity is OK.

Can anyone think of what could be causing this?

Probably old or failing hardware. Replace your NICs and Hubs.

Thank you for responding.

I talked to our IT guy and he says it cannot be the hardware. We have other people on the network and we all use other programs that are working fine. It is only AccPac that is hesitating.

Can you think of another solution to the problem?

I'm so glad your IT guy knows everything about Accpac...

The data might need a little rebuild. Musick's Free-up Plus will rebuild the indexes.

Is there a screen saver on the server, especially one of those busy ones?
What else is running on that server?
What has changed recently, new hardware, software or anything else introduced into the network?

Our IT guy is young but he is learning. :)

I will rebuild the indexes this weekend.

Thank you so much for the help.
