Heres a strange issue with a HP Deskjet 694C

Ok, this is the strangest thing I have ever seen. I just installed a printer for one of our temps and it printed the test page just fine. So I thought ok it's installed have fun, right. Well, no, come to find out it prints the test page just fine, but will not print anything else. It is printing nothing but horizontal and vertical lines (no text at all). I tried all the steps; restart the pc, turn off the printer, turn the pc back on and then the printer, same thing. Tried reinstalling the drivers and then going through the previous steps again, same thing. I then tried reinstall the printer port, still test page comes out perfect but nothing else, not even a simple txt file. If there are any words it prints them as vertical and horizontal lines (it would be easier if I could draw it for you but basically it looks like ===== ||||| but the | are on top of = and they look like a 3 year old scribbled them). It will not print pictures at all, just leaves that space blank, except of course it will print the Windows icon on the test page! I tried it on my PC and it does the same thing on mine. One more thing it is not USB it's the old Parallel, and I don't know if it matters but I used a parallel to usb converter to use it on mine.

What the heck is going on with this thing??

Windows 98 SE (I know but it's for the temp)
256MB Ram
1.6Ghz Intel
20 GB HDD with 11 GB free space
Tried printing from MS Text, Word, Adobe, MS Office Picture Manager, and Excel

My PC specs:

Win XP Pro
1GB DDR Ram
3.0Ghz Intel
80 GB HDD with 47 GB free space
