in the over state of his buttons he has movie clips that have the text tweening..quite simple actualy..
create text..convert to symbol(button)..now goto insert new symbol(movieclip)..in the clip with the same type font create a text tween that goes the way you want it to(with a stop action in the last frame of the tween)..no go back to your button..in the over frame of the button place the movie cliped text tween so that it plays the effect that you want..that's it..

oh yeh don't forget to place a object bigger then your text , over your text in the hit frame..
1 shortcut I have discovered,for Flash 5 anyway, is when attaching actionscript to a button.... selecting the onMouseEvent is redundant.... simply double-click the getURL or goto and it will automatically put the onMouseEvent as well as the goto or getURL or whatever code you selected into the right-side window.
