Hi people, I have a problem I will try to explain right.
I have an dimension custat with the catagories adrgroup,custname,itemnum. After generating the catagories I observe in the diagram that SOME of adrgroup is passed into a catagorie blank,( blank means to me that there are some of adrgroup from who no custat is availible) while I can observe in the datawarehouse that customer 1 has B as custat.My dimesion is like this.
Custat
adrgroup||adrgroup(alt.drilldown)
custname
itemnum
I dont know anymore what to do, I can manually assign the adrgroup into custat but I think after updating the cube next week it will turn back into how it was. I hope I was a little bit clear and someone can help me. Thx anyway!!

&quot;blank&quot; in that category (adrgroup) just means that some rows of your data have &quot;NULL&quot; or &quot;SPACES&quot; in the <adrgroup> column. It is an empty value.
You can modify the &quot;blank&quot; category value in the <PROPERTIES> tab of the (adrgroup) category. It may make the empty values more meaningful.

You can eliminate blank categories by making sure that your .imr has no blanks in it. Change the expression used for the columns bringing in the blanks to insert something there and you won't have any blanks when the model uses the .iqd. (if you are using iqd's as data).

Hi, I looked in my .imr there is no blank in it. I am using iqd's. In my .imr the fields I need are filled (not so long time ago because of they were blank)by means of our datawarehouse, so I dont still understand why I am getting blank catagorie :-(. Thx!!

If I was you I would do an if statement and make sure that all possibilities are covered in the imr, so that nothing is assigned as blank. Try this as a test. Also make sure all previous categories of a previous cube build are deleted, because if they were not and the dimension property set to &quot;Always include&quot;, these would show up in the cube.

Go to &quot;DATA DEFINITION&quot; for the <adrgroup> field and
modify it to:
(<> are added only to identify the db column)
If (<adrgroup> is missing) then (<adrgroup>) else ('Other')

You could just &quot;clean house&quot; to get rid of the old blanks. You will notice if you see the catagory date in the diagram in the model is old and not up to the latest build date. KEEP a copy of your MDL before you do this. Very important, because cleaning house could cause some specially created things to be eliminated. If your model has no specially created categories, then you are safe to clean house. The blanks will go away if they are all caused by OLD category generation.

I think that CognosProfessional's advice is a good, but first I would change the parameter for the item dimesion & then do the backup &Clean house. You may or may not supress the dimesion &quot;customer&quot; also, but that could be scary to the end user of the report, not to see a regular customer on the sales report just because he did not buy any thing for the month. If the absence of a customer means he had zero sales for the period in question, that would be OK to suppress.

By blank powerplay is showing that for a certain time period, not ALL customers bought ALL items. For some customers & some items, there simply are no values & there is nothing wrong with the report. I would suggest changing the parameter for the dimension to &quot;Suppress blank values&quot;

The certain time means for the whole range of dates your Impromptu reports are passing to Transformer.
