I installed ArcServe 2000, on a Compaq DL380 with an external CQDLT 40/80 tape drive. ArcServe see's the DLT8000 but I get an error stating that

"This is a shared device on a Distributed Server and tapeengine is unable to connect to the Primary Server, make sure the Tape Engine on the Primary server is running"

We're not running the SAN option on this server!! I'm lost and we have to recreate the Exchange environment on this box for a major restore...

HELP

I tried uninstalling then reinstalling ArcServe but had same error.

I am now having the identical error. How did you ultimately resolve this?

Thanks.

Hi,

on the registry... check set the value of "dynamicdevicesharing" on HKLM\SW\CA\BAB\BASE\TapeEngine\Config to "0"

recycle the tape engine..

hope this helps

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

Hi speshalyst;

Thanks for the response. In the interim I had dug around some and found CA had come out with a patch QO41393 that addressed the problem. All is well now.
