I am very new to Linux so this may be to newbie for this forum, if so i apologize.
Heres the issue, in a fit of rage trying to install licq I was having strange problems so i deleted every file that even looked like licq. I then downloaded the latest tar and configured and installed it. Everything looked good, untill i launched it, i got this message:
Licq:Ignoring stale lockfile
IniFile: Warning, failed to find key.
File =/root/.licq/licq.conf
Section =[plugins]
key =/numplugins
Inifile:Warning, failed to find section
File = /root/.licq/licq.conf
Inifile: Fatal error, terminating program.

What have i done by just deleting everything and was there a proper software removal procedure I should have followed..

It looks like it is seeing some files left over from the original, i.e. lockfile. The .licq dir is a hidden dir, so you will have to use the -a switch with ls to see it. If you didn't delete this dir before you built the new version, you will have to the next time. If you built it from a tarball, type "make clean" from the dir you built it and you can start from fresh. If you installed it from an RPM, I think you can use rpm with the 'e' switch to erase it then use the 'i' to install it again.
