hi ,

i have a laptop and desktop pc....

i want to connect them so i can "see" through my laptop the hard drive of my pc...

can anyone knows what i need to do so i can establish this connection?

The cabling part is just a Cat5e Crossover cable of whatever length you need.

The TCP IP part is just configuring both Network connections:

192.168.200.1 and 192.168.200.2 will do fine as addresses,
make each subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and leave both Gateways blank.

The Windows part I will leave to a Windows user, once you mention what Windows is where.

The Tek-tips part would be "Help Connecting Two PCs" as a title and listing vendors, models and OS in the body.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

To make things easier in a Windows environment I would also make both computers part of the same work group.

Right Click 'My Computer' > Properties
Select 'Computer Name' Tab
Press 'Change' button located on the bottom
Change Workgroup to whatever you want, but repeat on the other machine.

You should then be able to view the other computer via 'My Network Places' > Windows Network

You will need to right click on the folders you plan to access and enable Sharing, it's pretty easy.
