hi ,

i have a laptop and desktop pc....

i want to connect them so i can "see" through my laptop the hard drive of my pc...

can anyone knows what i need to do so i can establish this connection?

u need a crossover lan cable, the same workgroup name, different ip´s in the same range (i.e 192.168.2.1 + 192.168.2.2, subnetmask 255.255.255.0) and file and printer-sharing enabled

I don't recommend a crossover cable due to the packet collision rate

get a 10/100 switch and 2 straight wired cables and you will be much happier. if you are using the laptop and desktop for high speed internet don't get a switch get a decent router and if your laptop is wireless the get a wireless router (it will work for LAN too)

but transferring files between the two with the laptop wireless would be way too slow. get the router/switch and two normal patch cables, right click on the folder/drive you want shown on the desktop, go to properties, click sharing, and enable it on the second part. it should show up on the laptop in network places (This is assuming both PCs run windows XP)

True if you're looking for a long-term solution. But for a temporary connection to transfer data, a crossover cable will work just fine.

ipothos,
In the future, you should be more descriptive in the subject when creating a new thread. "Help" doesn't say much, and might be overlooked by some.
