I have my DSL working like a champ. The provided Westell 327 is not playing nice with my FTP server.

With my previous cable modem, I simply configured my linksys or netgear router to allow traffic on ports 20/21 for FTP.

Now this thing's graphical interface says it allows FTP by default, no joy.

I'm hoping someone can assist on this apparent piece of junk.

If I understand this correctly, you still have the Linksys router attached to the system? Since you are on dsl, check the settings in it and see if the MTU is on, and if so turn it off as it is already being handled by your modem. Having it on in both also causes problems with secure websites.

The test continues...

No the linksys is out of the loop. I did some other research and apparently it's an ISP issue to an extent. Verizon does not allow traffic on ports 20/21 for their DSL/FiOS customers. (imagine that?)

I found someone else on another page who configured different ports to pass the FTP traffic through, but I cannot locate the page anymore for exact verbiage.

i use SmartFTP with my Westell 327 with no problems. however, i am not on FIOS just Verizon DSL.

I assume you mean SmartFTP as an application not the SmartFTP server or Windows FTP services.

If that's the case, yeah I can do that too. This would be an FTP server and that Verizon is not too keen on, apparently.

I think you will need to port forward port 21 in your Westell to the Static IP of your FTP Server. if the Westell is doing NAT Routing. A outgoing FTP connection would be auto. though the NAT of the router. In coming would be blocked by the NAT firewall of the Westell if the port is not forwarded.

Enabling NAT had no effect
and the semantics of the port forwarding is not clear in the limited documentation or help files I could find
