Okay...I am a VPN newby, but i am a very fast learner. I just don't have hours a day to search the internet for tips and tricks that may or may not work, so I have decided to ask the professionals.

My boss would like to access data on our server from his house. When I say server, it mainly consits of another PC with a lot of storage. Here is how our system is set up.

We have a DSL modem that is networked into a Linksys (BEFSR81) router, then we have that router running into a Netgear FS108 Switch which then connects to all the computers and the server. I looked up whether the Linksys router or the Netgear switch excepts VPN traffic and I do not think it does.

In your opinion, what would be the easiest and most secure way to access our server from a home office. (Remember, our server is actually just a computer with a crapload of storage)

Thank you very much.

Please help!!!

Would be nice if you specified what OS you are using !

Also worth noting is that the easiest way is certainly not going to be the most secure!

If you are wanting security then PPtP is out of the question - you should use IPSec.

You will need suitable hardware on site (unless you happen to have Microsoft ISA server already) that can support VPN traffic, and then a secure client installed on the remote machine...NCP Secure Entry Client for example.
