Help with Understanding setting up Oracle reports security via Portal.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good understandable guide that explains how to set up Oracle reports security - Through Portal

I need to know the how to and rationale and best practices of everything from setting up a database portlet provider through creating reports server access and reports definition file access files.

I'm afraid what little documentation I've found is very confusing / generic and even misleading!
