This maybe a stupid question but I was setting up an automatic mailing system for my report snapshots. But after a couple of trial runs, access started spitting this message out "Report snapshot cannot be created because you don't have enough free disk space for temporary work files". Is there anyway to solve this problem manually or by code.

Hi,

I would find out where your temporary directory is (this depends on your operating system) and look at its free space, as this will have an effect on things other than Access.

For Win9x/Me: Start -> Run -> command.com and type SET <RETURN> then look for a variable called TEMP and what it says.

For NT/2K/XP: Start -> Run -> cmd.exe and type ECHO %TEMP%

This will be a path to a drive, something like:
C:\Documents And Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp

In either case, type EXIT <RETURN> to close the command prompt window.

You can open an explorer window on this directory if you like and see what junk is in there (and most is likely to be junk), also right click on the drive in my computer, choose properties and see what is free on it.
The exact situation depends on your system and setup, so could you post back with a little more about your environment and what free space you have found before I can make a more accurate diagnosis.

John,

I am using windows NT and followed your instructions. I found two folders: temp & temporary internet files. I emptied the temp internet files folder, it had 17mb of stuff. The temp folder had less than 1mb of stuff. I went back and tried to generate the snapshot and it gave me the same message. Any suggestions?

Hi,

The Temporary Internet Files folder is your internet explorer cache. The temp directory is where the operating system puts files it creates for any number of reasons.
What I am more interested in now is the total free space on the partition that has the temp directory.
