Help with setting up video in PBX using TN2198

Is anyone using BRI trunks for video thru their PBX? We have a G3R Rel. 9.5 and are using Tandberg video equipment with an NT1interface to the BRI circuits. This equipment is moved around depending on what meeting room requires it. We currently utilized 6 BRI circuits which are not running thru the PBX.

In the interest of cutting costs, I was told that I could use an existing PRI for video and eliminate our BRI circuits and in order to do this I needed to purchase a TN2198. Now that I've purchased the card and placed into the PBX, no one seems to be able to tell me how to program it. In the FAQ section there is some great info explaining how to receive video calls via a PRI to a polycom. I thought that I might be able to follow those instructions, but it looks like it's using a TN556 card. When I tried to set up a data module, I get an error that indicates I cannot mix BRI stations and trunks. If I don’t program stations or a data mod where do I assign the BRI ports? Is anyone willing to share your setup or point me to a document that could do that? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Linda, Is your video gear looking for a U interface or ST interface?

I suspect that it is looking for an ST interface and if so you bought the wrong board. You could still use the TN2198 but you would need an quad NT1 to change the U to ST. It would be cheaper to buy a TN556B.

I believe it is looking for a U interface. I just looked at the NT1 box and it is a Quad with four U connections and 4 s/t connections. Our maintenance vendor called to say he has obtained the configuration so I'll see how far I get with that. He said we will have to build data mod's and I told him the error I was getting when I tried to assign a port on that card. He says he has another customer set up this way, so I'll see what happens. He suggested I removed the board from software and we start again. Thank you for your quick reply. I may come back to you later today or tomorrow.

Apparently my first mistake was when I added the BRI card. Once I removed the card via software, I was able to build data modules for each of my 12 numbers. I have the ports punched down, but I'm not pulling dial tone. When I status the data mod they show as disconnected. The lights on the NT1 are blinking 8 times then go dark. My video guy says that means it can see the video equipment at the other end buy isn't seen the ISDN connections.

I've reviewed the FAQ document posted here and I do see some difference in how he had me set up the modules. Should all 12 numbers be programmed the same? In the Switched Data Attributes he had me set most of mine to sync rather than async and 64000 speed rather than 1200. I have 8 stations using 64000 and M2_S and 4 station using 1200 and M2_A. Under Link Parameters he had me say yes to endpt Init so I had to input a SPID. For the spid I input the 10 digit telephone number.

As for the actual ports, I did assign two stations to each of ports 1 - 6 on the card. But they are not sequential. In order words, say my number range is 1001 thru 1012. Shouldn't ext. 1001 and 1002 be programmed on the 1st port and then 1003 and 1004 on the port two and so on. He has mine all over the place saying it doesn't matter. So I've got 1001 and 1010 on port 1 and 1002 and 1011 on port 2.

Sorry for so many questions. This is all new to me. Again, any additional information you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Your first problem is that you don't know what type of ISDN interface your video gear is looking for. You say it's U. But if that is so, then why are you using a NT1???

I have been doing this setup for years now. Always with polycom gear and it is looking for an ST interface. That is why the TN556B is so great. It gives you a 4 wire ST interface, exactly what the video gear wants. No NT1 necessary.
