Hi
i'm setting up a new dell for a friend (new meaning i took it out of the box)
my problem is it takes forever to load a web page when the router is hooked up. i have about 12 hours on this #$%$# thing.everything is fine when router isn't used. it's a verizon dsl connection,i called verizon they show a good signal getting to the computer.

below is with router connected:
everything shows that i'm connected, i can ping yahoo and others and get a very good return,i can load google in good time but all other sites takes a good 3-4 min or longer and the browser doesn't time out,i literaly disabled everthing in msconfig and still loads the same,i tried static ip's for the computers, didn't help.
windows and norton firewalls are disabled.i tried entering the ip and dns numbers into the router still no joy.i've tried another new router, no joy.i disabled the router feature in the modem with verizons help, pppoe is selected in the router.i also reset the router several times back to default
every change i powerdown everything and reboot.

computer specs:
3.2 cpu
gig of ram
os is windows media center edition
norton internet security
norton av

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED
THANKS

nobody has any suggestions?

Thanks

media center is a new creature and few (i am guessing) here are into it yet.

sorry

thanks for the reply eyec,
i don't think it's os related, but then again that's why i had to bother you guys because i'm having a hard time tracking it down. i can put the computer on line by it's self, without the router..

thanks

check the router manufacturer's web page for info or possible tips on using this router with Media Center.

i have verizon dsl and have it directly connected to my XP box with no problems.

why are you using a router?

I already checked linksys's web sites they didn't post any problems.i was talking to an it guy in work and he seems to think it's the router feature on the modem actualy the ip address of the modem, it's the same as the linksys router (192.168.1.1). what do you think?
I haven't checked yet because i want more things to check before I go over there.i'm seaching the internet after work and before looking for more ammo..

to answer you ? : he's a small bus and he needs to put 3 computers online and share files..

THANKS for all replies

I had a similar problem with a Linksys router. I corrected the problem by updating the firmware for the router. Just a thought.

If you choose to battle wits with the witless be prepared to lose.

[cheers]

try giving each box a static IP address, network them, share the appropriate folders and see if that helps.

thanks for the suggestion foada, that is something i didn't try,

eyec, i did try setting static ip addresses for the pc's.. no joy

THANK YOU ALL!!

Like Foada stated, upgrade the firmware then check your isp's dns servers and point it to external ones instead of your routers. If you can ping them, you have access to them. Find out if your router is doing the dns for you or if it needs to point to an external dns servers. Let me know how it goes.

============================
Hope this helps.

i forget whether i tried to get too yahoo by the address, but i wrote that down to try.i do believe i put the verizons dns numbers from the ipconfig/all in the router and that didn't help..

i'm going to try to get to the guys office tomorrow before i go to work.i have several things to try now thanks to people here..

I will post what worked(hows that for confidence:)

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!

IT WORKS
all i did was change the ip address of the router, that didn't work by itself, then i change mtu from auto to manual with 1492 numbers and WALA

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP
