i am trying to connect an analog line off of my pbx on to my 8x24 DR5 w/ m12x0 module. i assigned it on line 001 and onto my set, but all i am able to do is pull dial tone. everytime i try to initiate a call it goes to fast busy, any tips?

The line numbers in programming will be determined by where the 12X0 trunk module is connected to the Norstar 8X24. Do you have a 2 port or a 6 port expansion card in the 8X24 and which port is the 12X0 plugged into. The ports number from the bottom and count up starting at the number 3. Modules 1 & 2 are on the core 8X24. A 2 port card has modules (ports) 3 & 4 and a 6 port card numbers 3 to 8. I have wiring tables if you need. Send me an e-mail

i have a 2 port expansion card, the module is connected to the third port. i have a ds card plugged into the first and second slots of that module .

With the TM connected to the third port (bottom of the two ports)the lines are numbered in software 21 to 32. Card 1 in TM is lines 21 to 24, Card 2 is lines 25 to 28. These are the line numbers that need to be addressed in programming. The 25 pr cable off the TM will number as follows:
Pr 1= line 21
Pr 2= line 22

Pr 5= line 23
Pr 6= line 24

Pr 9= line 25
Pr 10= line 26

Pr 13= line 27
Pr 14= line 28

Hope this helps,

Let us know how you made out.

what type of card should i use for 2 incomig centrex lines off of my pbx on that trunk module?

Any of the analog trunk cards should work. LS/DS or DS cards will work. Each card supports 4 lines, so the two cards in the trunk module will give up to 8 lines.

thanks , this has been really helpful. i inherited this system at work with out any manuals and it is really the first norstar i have messed with. do you know where i might find soft copies of all the manuals for the 824 w/DR5?

I am not aware of any softcopy for this software. As was common at the time all manuals were paper copies supplied with the software when purchased. Ir was not to uncommon for these paper copies to find their way into technicians personal libraries. I acquired many of my paper copies when removing old systems. I made a point of asking for any books that remained. Softcopies did not start until about Version 4.0 of the MICS cabinet which was several years after the Modular 8x24.

Others on the forum may be able to help.

Rstar...on a 8X24 is it not as follows?
KSU
Line 1=001 (port 201) pins 1 (first 25 pair)
Line 2=002 (port 202) pins 2
Line 3=003 (port 203) pins 3
Line 4=004 (port 204) pins 4
Line 5=005 (port 205) pins 5
Line 6=006 (port 206) pins 6
Line 7=007 (port 207) pins 7
Line 8=008 (port 208) pins 8

12X0 on port 3,first card
Line 9=009 (port 301) pins 1 (second 25 pair)
Line 10=010 (port 302) pins 2
Line 11=011 (port 303) pins 5
Line 12=012 (port 304) pins 6

second card:
Line 13=011 (port 305) pins 9
Line 14=014 (port 306) pins 10
Line 15=015 (port 307) pins 13
Line 16=016 (port 308) pins 14

I have never used port 3 for line because you are supposed to use port 4 and use 3 for stations as the norm, I know you can use port 3 for lines but never had the chance to do so but the lines 21-28 is what I am confused on where I would have thought it was lines 009-016.
Thanks for your input on this.

You are correct if the TM is plugged into port 4 (upper port of 2 port expansion card)and this where it should be connected if it is the only TM connected. WYREDAWG indicated the TM is plugged into port 3 (Lower of the two ports). The line numbering on a TM connected to this port would be 21 to 32. I was lazy about card number 3 in previous post as WYREDAWG indicated he was only using 2 trunk cards in slots 1 & 2 of TM.

TM plugged in as Module 4
Card 1 is line numbers 9 to 12
Card 2 is line numbers 13 to 16
Card 3 is line numbers 17 to 20

TM plugged in as Module 3
Card 1 is line numbers 21 to 24
Card 2 is line numbers 25 to 28
Card 3 is line numbers 29 to 32

To make it more standard WYREDAWG should move the TM to Port 4 of the TM and start line numbering from Line 9 if there is nothing plugged into port 4 of course. But it does not really matter, it just keeps the numbering consistent.

The first 01-08 lines on the main cabinet,on the exp. if you have 2 port exp,if you using port no. 4(the higher one) your line starts at 09-20,if you using port 03 ( the lower one ) your lines starts at 21-32.If you using 6 port exp if you are using port no. 8 (the higher one)the lines starts at 09-20,port 7 starts at 21-32,port 6 starts at 33-44,port 5 starts at 45-56,port 4 starts at 57-68. port 3 starts at 69-80.I hope it clears the issue.

Say WYREDAWG,

Is this an existing install or are you putting it in new behind the PBX? If this is a new install and all the lines are coming off the PBX, then you can connect up to 8 lines on the core KSU. You would not need the TM at all. I was working from the point that you needed the TM to go beyond the 8 lines on the KSU.

thanks this is really helpful. i have my lines programmed now and i can pull dial tone from the button i have assigned it on and i can break it but whenever i try to dial anything i get an instant fast busy. any suggestions ?

no , it is an existing unit but never has had any external pots lines programmed foe trunks. all i had was a line connected to my DM2-250 switch for a hset position.i originally had 2 phone lines tied onto lines 001 and 002 but i didnt know if the trunk setting of loop was what i needed. i have very limited knowledge of norstar programming . i am going on hand me down notes and newer manuals for guidance as well as this forum. so far its been extremely helpful. thanks again guys

i am able to program the lines to the buttons i want them on and i can draw dial tone, even break it, but whatever i dial i get a fast busy in return

You do not need to use the TM at all. You can connect to your PBX using Lines 1 to 8 on the core KSU. As posted earlier Lines 1 to 8 connect to the first 8 pairs in the first (top amphenol) 25 pair cable. You posted earlier that you are able to dial out from the lines using a handset ahead of the KSU. Just to confirm that the dial tone you are listening to on the Norstar set is in fact the correct dial tone, go off hook on the Norstar and short the line ahead of the KSU. You should hear the clicking. If this is OK, then try dialing out from the Norstar phone and listen on the line ahead of the KSU to confirm the reorder (fast busy ) is coming from the PBX or the Norstar. If the reorder is coming from the KSU then it is likely a programming problem.

I would look at the line programing in the Norstar (Assuming there are no excessively long or short loops to the PBX. In most cases it would work to some degree. The only paramters I can think of off hand that may affect your dialing is Mode/Pulse or Tone or line restrictions. Pulse is default. I would still think pulse would work OK. There could be problems with the programming for the set for example set restrictions.

It is always easier if I was standing there.

Just some thoughts.

Rob

I think the best thing for you right now,is to check with a single line phone(butt set if you have one )before the system on these lines and make sure that you can dial out and receive ring on your SL phone. If you do that and everything is ok and you can dial out then you have a programming issue on your Norstar side most likely restriction either on lines or sets, but if you can't dial out from the single line phone then the ext of your PBX is restricted not your norstar and you have to fix that first

Good Luck.

thanks for all you help guys i found out what the problem was. i was at my tn limit on my option 11c. its strange, it will still let you pull dial tone even with nothing assigned. the whole time all my settings were right. i never did get the trunk module to provision right though i am still gonna work on that . once again thanks everyone. another one of those user error problems .hahaha

i had to unassign a port on my pbx to make room for one line to go to my 824
