Help with Pix 520 cable modem connect

I have a pix 520 at ios 6.2.

I have done many connection using static Ip's by providers without any issue. I am now trying to connect the pix up to a cable modem that has dynamic Ip's. Having nothing but problems.

As far as I can see, i have the config right. I guess it boils down to, i dont have an ip to assign to the outside address on the pix, and i dont think it is accepting the ip sent down by the provider. Any help in this would be usefull.

I have put the line in: ip outside dhcp. but upon restart of the pix, just get dhcp failed.

Have you tried a pc on that cable modem instead ? does that work ?

If yes, then it could be the speed/duplex settings on the outside interface. Also it could be because the isp uses pppoe, so you have a user/pass to specify in the pix before you can get an ip address.

Thank you for the quick response.

If you use it with a pc, it works fine. we r currently using a pc with a software firewall, and r installing the pix 520.

In the pix config i have the ethernet1, which is outside set to auto. I havent worked with the pppoe, where could i find the commands to do that. command line of course.

Well if it works fine with a pc and you haven't setup any pppoe dialer on the pc then you aren't running pppoe on the connection, you should do a "sh interface" on the pix to check the interface speed/duplex and status.
