I've never hooked one of these cards up, but I want to do so on my test system so I know how what it can do. If you've used or installed remote access, would you share what's involved with me?

I'm at the point where "I install the card, then power up the system" and then what? I know the computer administers using software, but how does that computer actually connect with the remote access card?

Do I need to buy some kind of security dongle for the admin software?

Is there a website where the steps are explained?

And, does this work in a Partner II R4.1 system or ACS only?

Thanks in advance

The card has a modem. It's extension 76. Set the password in #730. Go to the Avaya support site to get the software and instructions.

Thank you Touch Tone Tommy. I appreciate the information.

Turns out that this 12G5 "Remote Access Card" only works with Partner ACS (not Partner II). Partner II systems used a device called a "Remote Connection Unit" and required one at both ends of the connection. I could not find more specific information, but I suspect those Remote Connection Units are some kind of external modems.

I also found a notice on Avaya that says this 12G5 version has a problem with ACS R8 if there is also a 308EC card in Slot 1 of the carrier. The 12G5 card will not connect in this scenario. The fix is to go with a 12G4 card - or not have a 308EC card in slot one (using a 206EC card in Slot 1 would be okay).
