Working in PageMaker 6.5 on a Mac OS 9.2, I have been built a 68-page media guide. For a long time now, when I open the document while other applications are running, the document will start to load but then PageMaker will quit and give me this message: The application "Adobe PageMaker 6.5" has unexpectely quit, because an error of type 2 occurred. You should save your work in other open applications and restart the computer. I have found over the past year that if I close all open applications except PageMaker and/or restart my computer, the document will open. Today, I was "Saving For Service Provider" under plug-ins and had already gone throught the process of "preflight pub" with no errors. I had no problems with my fonts or links so I clicked on "package." While it was being packaged, PageMaker suddenly quit and gave me the same message as
above. I had no other applications open so I restarted my computer. I tried to open it like usual and before the document even started to load, PageMaker quit again. So I restarted it again. After the fourth restart with the same results, I tried shutting down the computer and letting it
sit for a while. The results were still the same message. I tried burning the file onto a cd and opening it, opening the file through Appleshare from another Mac, and opening the cd burnt on a cd from another computer and getting the same error message every time. Is there any way I can access my publication without starting over???

What is the final size of the PM doc? Does it have a lot of embedded graphics? If so, it could be beyond the capacities of your computer. It's never a good idea to embed graphics - they should be linked instead. Do you have any backups of this file?

I think you need to check out this link: which gives advice on troubleshooting damaged PM docs.

And also have a read of this one, which gives advice on a good workflow with PM:
