I had a computer crash, I can start it in safe mode. OE6 will start, but wont let me export any mail. I had recently copied the entire hard drive onto a server. But I can't seem to open any e-mails if I start OE6 it is like starting new. Is there a way I can get my e-mail?
Any help would be appreciated

Mike

First, fix the problem with your computer starting in safe mode. Once you have a normal, booting computer, search for your dbx files (these are the outlook express data files), and copy them to your computer, anywhere. Open Outlook Express, go to file>import>messages. Choose Outlook Express 6, and hit next. Choose import from an OE6 store directory, and browse to whereever you copied those dbx files, next your way through the wizard, and you should have your data back.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

I think the dbx files are only created when an export was done. there are not any dbx files on the computer. But I know there is e-mail. In safe mode it will not let me export anything.
What happend with the PC was, someone tried doing an Microsoft update without disableling the anti virus software. It is windows XP home I think it was sp1 (that's what the restoration disk says) but when it comes up to the safe mode screen it says sp2. I think that was the undate that didn't work. Restoration doesn't work even from a prompt.

Thanks
Mike

Can you go to add/remove programs and try to remove SP2? You should be able to boot off of the restoration disk, insert it and restart the computer, but note this will wipe out the entire hard disk.

The reason you probably don't see the dbx files is that xp doesn't search system folders by default. Run another search, but before you start it, click the advanced button, there should be a check box that says to search system/hidden folders, something like that.
