About 4 weeks ago I made the big upgrade to AD and Exchange 2003. After time has passed with all running smooth, i have decided to decomission the remaining NT box that was running Exchange 5.5. All boxes and folders are on the new 2003 server and the 5.5 server is no longer used for anything. I removed it from the domain controller and pulled the neywork cable on it, planning on watching things for 24 hrs or so to make sure all is good.
Mail and public folders are all running fine without it and the domain does not miss it at all. The only thing I'm getting is this pesky error is my logs every 10 min:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeMTA
Event Category: Interface
Event ID: 9318
Date: 7/7/2005
Time: 12:03:42 PM
User: N/A
Computer: Exchange2003
Description:
An RPC communications error occurred. Unable to bind over RPC. Locality Table (LTAB) index: 105, Windows 2000/MTA error code: 1722. Comms error 1722, Bind error 0, Remote Server Name EXCHANGE 5.5 [MAIN BASE 1 500 %10] (14)

It does not seem to be affecting anything, yet is bothersome. I read that there was an event root folder to be removed, which I did, but am still getting the error.
Does anyone have any idseas on how to stop this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Did you follow all the steps to remove the server from the exchange org. These articles outlines them

Error 1722: "Similar to Event ID 9318 Source MSExchangeMTA Type Warning. Occurs when Exchange server is unable to locate another Exchange server on the network.
