I am setting a new exchange 03 box.

the server is attached to my .local domain.

I am confused about a few things and help some help.
our .com is with godaddy.

First i created and A record there - host = mail , points to x.x.x.x

then I created an MX record - priority 0, host = goes to = mail.domain.com

first is that correct?

now on my server side. since I am saying mail.domain.com does it matter what my server name is? what do I need to do on my local DNS server ?

any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi dvannoy,

Installing Exchange is sure not a straight forward step.

Assuming that you have AD and DNS working properly.

Run a nslookup and a set type command to check your goddady setting.
> set type=mx
> mail.domain.com

You should not have to do anything special on DNS, as long as your exchange box can get out to the Internet.

What you need to do after the Exchange Installation is to open System Manager - Recipient - Recipient policies - then right click on your Default policies - properties and go to the Email Policies tab. You will then need to add a new smtp entry as mail.domain.com.

You will have to follow this step if you ever purshase a

mail.domain.net or mail.domain.org Internet domain name.

Doing this will update all your recipient email address.

Hope this help.

Let us know how you get on .....
