Help with MFC ActiveX

I built an mfc app with the activex control textbox from Microsoft forms 2.0. When I use the control in my app, the textbox for some reason does not accept any input except backspace and shift+enter. Any other key i press results with a beep. I did not modify or override any handlers. When I use the ActiveX Control Test Container, the textbox works fine. I have no idea what could be wrong, can anyone please help?
