Help With Linking? 1

I am new to Filemake so bear with me. in my file i need to "link" two pop up lists. One Is called Product ID which is a six number code, the other is product description which says what the product is. I need to be able to select a product id and have the description show up in the other field and vise versa. How do i do this.

It sounds like you are looking to build conditional value lists, I would suggest you take a look at

My guess is that you don't intend to enable an OPTIONAL response in the product description field but that you want FMP to autofill that field with a "standard" description (based on the Product ID). If that's the case, I'd favour creating an additional file - being a lookup table with a separate record for each Product ID (including a field for its product description). Then create a relationship between the Product ID field of your present file and the Product ID of the new file. If the Product ID's product description is ALWAYS & FOREVER going to be what it is today you can simply put the related Product Description field on your File 1 layout(s). However, if you need to be able to modify in File 1 a Product ID's "standard" product description (from the table in File 2) then you simply make the Product Description field in File 1 a text field with the contents auto-entered from the Product ID relationship.
