I'm trying to link a Table from an Oracle Database to Access '97 to be able to create reports and queries. I can get all the tables except one and this one is the most important. The Oracle DB is connected to BMC Control-D and holds all the info on job routing. The table is the Metadata table that houses all the info. The error I get is:

Invalid field definition ‘OPEN_FILE’ in definition of index or relationship.

I have tried to link just this table and tried all at once, both attempts result in the same error.

Any Help or Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
THANX

There may be a column definition in the table definition that is not valid in Access and creates the problem. I've been using SQL Server, but have run into problems with text and memo fields, mainly text fields that contain 255 characters and will memo fields completely, since the memo field imported into SQL Server becomes a binary text field, a type not recognized by Access. You might be encountering a similar situation with your Oracle table. If you can set up a similar table in Oracle and try connecting, then deleting one column at a time, until you get a valid connection you might be able to find the "offending" column.

Do you need to edit the data or just report? If all you have to do is report, then you may be better off using Pass-Through queries.

Find out how to get great answers faq219-2884.

Link "PUBLIC_ALL_TAB_COLUMNS" and look at the datatypes for the columns in the table you are attempting to link.
