Hello!

I have a IBM server with OS AIX 4.2.1. (ibm rs6000 43p 240) My problem is when I start Netscape it doesn´t find my dsl. I recieve this information.:

Netscape is unable to locate the server "login.telia.com"
Check the server name in the locate (url) and try again.

Also I don´t think that the server start Ethernet card either, because if I change the cable to the Windows machine, dsl is working instantly.

Can anyone help me with this??? Please answer to cole@bsdmail.com because I´m not here that often.

Can I use another OS on this server?

Thanks

First, make sure your network configuration is started. You can perform a "ping 127.0.0.1" and see if you receive a response.

If you don't then use smit tcpip and select "initial configuration and start up" then follow the prompts. Following the last page the system should start the network services.

Once you get it started check to see if you have the file /etc/resolv.conf and if it contains one or two lines that read "nameserver" with an IP address adjacent to it. You will need to determine the IP addresses of the name servers you will be using. These usually are available from the provider of the DSL service.

Once these steps have been completed you should be able to use your network AND the Internet.

GOod luck.
