As the title says I'm trying to install a sata drive onto a GB-8penxp MB. This is the first sata hard drive I've had so have come up a bit stuck. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. There are 4 different s-ata ports on the board. 2 are marked ast sata-sb and the other as sata-sl. If I plug the drive into the sl port the pc will boot up but not find the drive. If using the sb port then the pc hangs during the post. The hard drive is a Maxtor diamondMax plus 9 200gb sata/150 HD. Thats about all the infor I can give so I hope someone can help.

Not familiar with your mobo or 2 types of SATA connector - but. If it boots connected to sl port - that's good start. What do you mean by 'not find the drive'? Is there a key to enter the SATA bios - to set up drive? (there is on my mobo - part of POST screen displays)

Have you installed Gigabytes Sata controller drivers (silicon image?) during XP installation?
Connect the drive to the first SATA1 header
Normally by pressing F6 at the beginning of XP install, It says something like: press F6 if you want to install third party drivers and gives you just a few seconds to press this key before it moves on.
Normally you either have to extract these drivers off the motherboard driver disk to a floppy or there is a floppy disk ready to go which was included with the moby.
At this point it should load the drivers for the controller, find hard drive so allowing you to continue with the OS install.
