Is it possible to bring a font that isn't in Illustrator 10 into it?

Thanks

Hi,

Fonts are best managed with a font tool like suitcase or Adobe Type Manager. If you use one of those tools you can select the fonts you wan't to use and display them in all the programms you work with.

hope this helps

Hi pchap,

In answer to your question, yes you should be able to. The fonts you can view in ILL. are the fonts that came with the program and fonts that are in the "fonts" folder in the "Windows" directory. To ad more fonts to the "fonts" folder do the following:

This is the novice approach to the task-

1) left click the start button on your task bar

2) move your cursor over the heading -settings-

3) on the fly out menu click on control panel

4) in the control panel window double click on the fonts icon

5) in the fonts window click on -file- on the menu bar at the top

6) click on install new font

7) in the add fonts window that pops up next select the drive you will be downloading any fonts from

8) then highlight the fonts to be downloaded

9) click ok

Note:
You shouldn't install too many fonts onto your computer, 500 is a good number of fonts to maintain but at least try to keep it under 800, you'll have less headaches later on.

I recommend not installing any fonts at all in your system fonts folder (other than the one's application installers put there) They take up ram as long as your comp is running. Definitly use a font manager. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!

Thanks guys...one question though. I'm using Illustrator 9 on my home computer and at school we are using version 10. My problem is there is a font in version 9 that I like but when I do something at home with that version and then take it to school to work on or print version 10 substitutes a default font for the one I used at home in version 9, so how can I put the font from version 9(which is on my home computer) into version 10(which is on my school computer)?

Hope that made sense?

Thanks again for your help

I dont think the difference is in the versions of AI, rather your machines just dont have the same fonts. If a font from 9 is no longer in 10 then there is probably and updated version of it in 10. You can use the find font command to make universal font changes once you get the file to school. If you dont need to further edit the type, convert your art to curves first. If you are on a PC, copy the font to a disk and ASK your teacher if you can stick it his font folder. If your on a mac, copy both the screen and printer font to a disk. Shame on your school for teaching you AI 10 rather than 9 BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
