I hope you'll forgive my ignorance. I'm trying to figure out 2 things on working with the new Adobe InDesign CS. I saved the IDD file and now it is uneditable. I just went to file/save and now it's like a pdf that's a read only. I want to save it so I can email it for further review by my editor. Will he be able to edit it if I save my work as IDD or should I save it as an EPS? He is also using CS. Also, second question, is there a quick way to change pages in my layout. I create a new 2 page layout and when I finish my 1st page is suddenly the 2nd in my final PDF. I'm probably missing something simple but I'll take any suggestions. I'm used to MS Publisher and this is totally new, but better quality! Thanks

The file remains editable when you save - File/Save. It's INDD. My guess is that you're trying to select something that is placed under another object, or you've locked an object.

Make sure that the object you're selecting is either topmost or use Object/Select/ Next Under etc to get to the object. You can also use Direct select tool to get to objects. Also make sure that Nothing is locked (Object menu) if editing is going to be done.

If you're editing text only, you might have to first click on the text box and then the text tool for editing.

ID treats everyting like a book by default. That's why your 2 page thing is coming out like a 4 pg thing (first page is now second, etc). Just go to File menu/Document setup and UNCHECK Facing pages. Now Page 1 will be page one.

The editing problem is peculiar. The text boxes won't select and the direct select tool is ineffective. It's like I'm trying attempt an edit on an image file. Nothing selects at all. I saved it as INDD. I just created and saved a new book and everything is fine. Now my new files are perfectly editable. I'll just make a new master and I'll be fine. Thanks for the input.
