I replaced the maintenance drawer on the Churches Phaser 850 due to worn out lift pins. Now it fails POST with a 007.004.NNN error. I understand this is a drum clutch failure. Where is the clutch located? Can it be repaired without replacing it? Is there a way to service the Phaser 850 without it "cleaning" every time it is powered up or goes into an error condition? I'm using lots of ColorStix during the troubleshooting. I'm also not sure how to access the Service Mode?

If the lift pins were worn and you replaced the dmc drawer and then the error appears it is likely the dmc clutch needs to be replaced. With an older clutch they tend to fail when a new dmc drawer is replaced due to worn lift pins due to the fact the clutch has to work harder with the new drawer. Cleaning the clutch will not work and chances are it is an older one. The new ones are p/n 650428800 cost about $60, they are located on teh left side at the bottom under the drum encoder. There are 2 clutches side by side, it is the one to the left (or rear of the printer), the one to the right is the pick clutch and it has a larger gear attached than does the dmc clutch.

Thanks for the help Marty. Where is a good source for repair parts for the Phaser 850?

You can check online to see if Xerox has a local reseller in your area for parts. I had a source in Pensacola Florida but he recently told me he could no longer sell parts but would be happy to fix the printer. Told me Xerox will not allow then to sell parts. Not sure what is up with that, but I would search online and if I come accross a source myself I will pass it along. Sorry I do not have better info.
