I have been running Corel Draw 4 for some time and recently I recieved the error
"One of the library files needed to run this program is damaged. To repair the
damage reinstall this program."

I have reinstalled both ways (off cd and hard drive) and still the same error.

Are there know conflicts which I can fix? I am thinking it is a .dll from other software?

Thanks!

sulimick@aol.com

Before you reinstall, hit ctrl-alt-del and end task on everything EXCEPT Explorer and systray ('specially virus checkers--end task). Then reinstall. If a program is running in the background, it could have a dll in use that is not being overwritten when you install.

dreamboat@nni.com
<a href=
Thanks dreamboat.

I tried this and it does not seem to work either though. After the installation the system has a message that it needs restart for the OLE file and autoexec.bat. I tried both ways of upgrading and not upgrading these files and neither seems to work.

Other ideas?

Have you tried uninstalling it correctly through control panel first. This should remove all corrupted files. After you unintsall it you should then reboot the system and try and install it from scratch.

Let me try this again... The same thing has happened to my Corel 4, and *nothing* works to reinstall it. Here's my question: Can I upgrade to 9 from my 4, or do I have to buy the full version? (My money tree hasn't sprouted yet, so I'm hoping for being able to upgrade)

I had the same problem with Corel Draw 4.

The reason was that I had run the Web-based virus scan by McAffee. This system installs a DLL named 'zlib.dll' in the windows/system directory. Corel Draw 4 uses a DLL with the same name, but places it in it's program directory. When Corel Draw 4 starts up it asks Windows to get the DLL of this name ready - and Windows looks first in it's system directory and Corel Draw can't identify this DLL of the same name but different contents and hence stops.

Get rid of the 'zlib.dll' in the system directory and Corel Draw will work just fine - only McAffee no longer. Your choice...
