Hi everyone,

Running PS4.0 / W2k3, SP1. Publishing a desktop to a bout 1000 users who (almost all) use a NeoWare appliance (thin client).

Question: In attmepting to fix some FLASH ANIMATION problems, I have started to investigate the 'color depth'. Here are my current settings:

FARM LEVEL: ICA Settings- max color depth: 8192kb
TWCONFIG INHERIT: set to ON
DISCARD REDUDANT GRAPHICS: ON
ALTERNATE CACHING METHOD: ON
DEGRADE COLOR DEPTH FIRST: ON

Within in the Ctx Configuration Console \ Client Settings Tab (on each server)- they are all different settings for Maximum Color Depth (?) (inherit, 8 bit, 15 bit, 16 bit, 24 bit, etc. Can someone explaing this setting to me? Am I overiding this setting by using the settings at the Farm level? Which one takes priority..?

Any help would be great!

Thanks!
Brandon

bran2235,
The farm level should take priority of color dept ONLY IF you have the "take farm configuration" set on those servers.

So just look at a couple of your servers and make sure they take advantage of the farm setting by having that checked (that way you can just adjust it at the top level).

Flash animation...blah! (lol) Make sure you have your SpeedScreen Flash configured (this should be adjustable)on your farm level.

Hope that helps.

Thanks enigma!
COuple more:

- Any suggestions to where I should put the slider for the speed screen setting (default is 5- in the middle).

- I will set all servers to 'inherit user config'- in the CCC (is this what tells the server to use the Farm settings)?

- BIG Question: as far as FLASH is concerned:
--What is leveraged at the client end (we use neoware thin clients) in order to produce the graphics? (i.e. Video card, memory, processor)???? Which one is more important for Flash?
--What is leveraged at the server side for the end user? (i.e. Video card, network, maximum memory for session graphics?)?? I need to make sure we are utilizing everything we can (server and client side) to get the best performance for web sites with flash animations...

THANK YOU!
Brandon

bran2235,
The video card at the server level will not be utilized at all since the video will be handled by ICA thinwire.
The network will probably be the most important aspect of the design.
I would test out the flash animation on a segment that is local to the Citrix server (LAN). This way you will get a good baseline (it will let you know that it actually works well...lol).
After that...try the same thin client on a (WAN) connection and see how it compares to the LAN connection.

If the WAN is horrible then you will see all kinds of issues (refresh rates). Then you will need to start looking at what is causing the latency and try to either clean it up or try to make the ICA protocal the top priority protocol.

Hope that give you a little bit more info.

Enigma,

You said:

Where is this set??
In the CCC (on my servers), under Client Settings, all i have is:

"Maximum Color Depth" with options:
- Inherit User Config
- 8 bit
- 16 bit; and
- 24 bit

Is this what you are referring to? There is no Check Box either...

THANKS!
Brandon

bran2235,
This setting is located in the properties of the server in CMC.

Launch the Citrix Management Console and then navigate down to the Servers folder. Right-click on one of your servers and go to the properties and check your settings.

Hope that helps.

Ok- are you talking about the (under ICA settings) the check box that says "Use farm settings for ICA display"?
