I am totally not a computer guru- I have a title at work as the computer operator- but I am more of a glorified secretary. My problem that I am trying to figure out is why am I getting my email messages back to me when I send to aol. Is this a specific problem just to aol or is there a chance that the people whom I am sending the messages to have put a block on me. (it is a step daughter situation)

the action says failed
status is 5.0.0
then is followed by a description of smtp;500 syntax error command unrecognized , line by itself.

Just am trying to figure this out.
any answers or clues would be appreciated.
thanks.

Have you tried sending to any other addresses?

Chris.

Yes, I can send to anything that is NOT AOL. but it depends on the time of day it seems for any AOL. would that make a difference too? I only know about 3 AOL addresses of friends and one time I did try sending to all and got all three back. but then other times I got only the one back.
What does a returned email message - due to a block look like or read as? will it tell you that it is blocked?
I have been looking for some time to try and figure this out and I find bits and pieces of information of what that message means. What I really want to know is if this is instigated by her mother to block my emails to her.
thanks for your help.

It doesnt sound like a block. I think AOL tells you its a blocked message. Can you get on someone else's address and send? If so they it may be blocked but I highly doubt it. Look at the headers, or if it's REALLY that important call up AOL and ask.

AOL has been blocking ISP's all over the place lately due to a large amount of viruses and spam that is impacting their systems. I would suggest contacting AOL and asking them to remove the block on you or have the person that your trying to mail call them and let them know that they want to receive your emails.
