Hello all!
I am in need of some help regarding setting up a VPN phone for a remote user. They have been given a 5610SW VPN phone that was pre-configured to connect to our VPN (on a Cisco ASA 5510). Now, this user in FL and I'm in VA, so popping by is not an option. We also have one other extension that is currently a VPN phone (Same handset, 5610SW connecting to the ASA). Onto the details.
The phone boots, successfully connects the Tunnel, grabs DHCP, then it starts looking for the 46xxvpnupgrade.scr file. First through HTTP and then through TFTP which counts up to 6, then times out. I see that this behavior is due to the phone being put in the 876(VPN) group. I have also read through Avaya's VPNremote for the 4600 Series IP Telephones pdf to try to find my answer. I see that an update needs to be applied to the server where Manager runs from, and that update is what supplies the 46xxvpnupgrade.scr files, creates the other new firmware, etc. etc. Herein lies the issue. As far as I can tell, that software has NEVER been installed on our "Avaya Manager" server. So it doesn't exist, which explains why HTTP and then TFTP times out.
This brings me to my question of "how the hell is the other VPN phone working?"
SO! Is it possible to utilize the phone with the built-in VPN client, but NOT have it in the 876 group? Because that is the only way I can see the working handset being setup and usable.
Thank you for the help!
P.S. If needed, I do have a video of the phone's boot sequence from "Restarting..." to "TFTP: TIMED OUT" that I can share. I can also grab any of the phone system settings if needed.
