I need to move all the circuit connections from their current location to the back of the building. I have run 50 pair cat5 and want to connect each end using cat5 patch panels. Do I need to just patch them straight through say using 568B as long as the same color is used on each corresponding jack or do they need crossed between them. I want to be able to run a patch cable from the circuit to the patch panel and then a patch cable from the patch panel on the other end to the respective equipment. I can't seem to get a good test between the patch panels. Thanks.

Everything gets wired straight through (568A or B same on each end)

The only time you need a crossover cabel is when two computers are connecrted together, or when connecting two hubs/switches when neither has an uplink port.

Good Luck.

I assume you are working with network (10/100/1000BaseT) wiring...

1. How long is the longest cable at the patch panel at the back of the building?

2. How long is the 50 pair cat5 extention to the new location.

If the answer to 1 + 2 > 330' then you are likley to have problems due to excessive cable length which causes signal degradation.

All wiring between patch panels should be straight through. Pick a pair standard 568A or 568B and stick with it for permanent wiring. If you need a crossover do it with a MARKED patch cable. You shouldn't need any crossovers for this project unless you needed them before.

What sort of test are you using?

you would be better served running two cat5e 4pair(use one to connect the two switchs and keep one as a spare ) or fiber and have a switch on each end

is the 50 pair bieng used to extend the connection

4pair from workstaion to patch panel , 50 pair from patch panel a to b then patch cord to a switch ? so in essence 4 pair from workstation to the switch

like wires mentioned your way you need to measure from the furthest point and keep it under 100 meters
