Why won't this page work in Netscape Nav 4x?

The rest of the site works in NN4 and uses the same style sheet, but the index.html page is a mess.

I can't figure out where the problem is at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help. I'd like to give up, but can't!

I suppose that as a programmer you know how to search for bugs.

Here's what I did:

1. Saved the page without attached stylesheet - the layout is OK, so the problem is in CSS.

2. Saved CSS, divided it into 2 parts and removed the first one to see the effect.
Layout is OK, so the problem is in 1st half of CSS.

3. Added 1st half back, divided it into 2 parts ...

After several iterations I found out that the problem is here:

h6 {
color: #0000BD;
font-size: 90%;
font-weight: bold;
border-width: 2px 0px 2px 0px;
border-color: #0000BD;
border-style : solid;
background-color : #CCCCFF;
margin-left: 20px;
margin-right : 20px;
}

No surprise, NN4 doesn't support different width for border sides.
Remove it (or modify the border definition) and that's it.

Wow! What a helpful post!

The suggestion to break down the style sheet into parts to narrow down the location of the problem is something I never thought of and is a great suggestion.

I forgot that NN4 won't support different border widths.

Thank you so much.

I also duplicated the style sheet and renamed it with a prefix of "nn" and linked it to the page. I imported the original style sheet.

I removed the offending border properties from the "nn" stylesheet (for NN4) and now it's back to normal and I can tweak the styles on the 'nn' sheet especially for nn4.

Thanks a million.
