Help w/ LDAP and BO

I have several, hopefully, very general questions regarding LDAP and BO, which some super BO user can answer for me.

1. What triggers the sync between LDAP and BO XIR2?

2. How can I get the sync to be about 10 minutes or less for user signon?

3. Can BO bypass the CMC and look into LDAP instead for user signon?

I'm a fairly new BO user in regards to LDAP. I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter.
