I have a Windows 2000 server system which is our file server. I built another server to be the backup. Both systems have identical hardware. I need to know the easiest way to get the data from the main system to backup system and to be able to update changes from one to another. I would appreciate any help.

how often do you want replication?

Best way is to configure them manually then run backup exec to backup the main server at say 10pm then have backup exec on the main server do a restore repointed to the new server. This keeps it replicated each day.

Keep both pointed at windows update. Keep documentation...

Or you could just use Xcopy to copy across the files. I backup our file server using Robocopy (similar to Xcopy) from the resource kit. Or if you want 'automatic' updates you could use DFS.
